Fried Chicken

Crispy Southern-style fried chicken with a buttermilk marinade.

Fried Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 kilogram Chicken pieces
  • 500 millilitre Buttermilk
  • 2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 litre Vegetable oil

Steps

  1. Marinate chicken pieces in buttermilk with salt for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight in the fridge.(240 min)
  2. Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.(3 min)
  3. Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge each piece thoroughly in the seasoned flour.(10 min)
  4. Heat oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 170°C (340°F).(10 min)
  5. Fry chicken in batches, turning occasionally, until deep golden brown and cooked through (internal temp 74°C).(15 min)
  6. Drain on a wire rack and rest for 5 minutes before serving.(5 min)
